For positive attitude in face of a significant obstacle
Kevin Hitchcock, a Sydney journalist with a wife and three young children, fell from a rope swing in January 1991 and broke his neck. Medical opinion was that he would be a quadriplegic for the rest of his life. His refusal to accept this prognosis and his subsequent journey of survival and eventual triumph is a celebration of the human spirit. Kevin addressed the 1999 Best Practice Principals' Retreat and his autobiography "Walk with Me" (ISBN 009183394.9) has provided inspiration to tens of thousands.
The Kevin Hitchcock Medal is presented to an agency principal who has, through determination and commitment
1. Overcome a significant obstacle to achieve success, and
2. Provided an example to those around them of the value of a positive attitude.
